Hand copied music includes numerous marches including "Madison's March," "Queen's Rangers," "Lord Nelson's March," "The 4th July," "Harisson's March," "Jefferson's March," "General Jackson's March," as well as pieces entitled "Handel's clarinet," "Duke of York's Cotillion," "O! come to the bower," and numerous untitled pieces. First page is inscribed "Ireneus N. Henkel / Bought of Anthony Duff, Cost for 6 #1.50 / New Market Shenandoah, Virginia, August 1st 1830 / Select Music: / By Anthony Duffs / I Silon A. Henkel bought this book / from Ireneus N. Henkel in 1831. The last two pages of the manuscript contain notes in German, 1817-1819, recording places and dates of a Virginia traveller. Identifiable places include "Friteriksburg," "Numarket," "Portreill" in "Carollein" Co.," "Staffort" and "Rabohenik" [Rappahannock?], "Elkrent" [Elk Run?], "far Quier" [Fauquier], "Fallmut Strauss" [Falmouth road?], "die rott zu Goltbeber" [road to Culpeper?] and "Goltenhaberstrass" [Cold Harbor Street?] There also appears to be a purchase record for an unidentified item, perhaps chocolate "Schogholat" May 9, 1819.
